Two Collages - Somnolent, Fear of a Tie Planet
Two new collages made yesterday. Quick execution, but still very satisfying to make.
I like the color tones and line quality in this first piece. There is a depth of color that links the images in my mind. The bridge was very fascinating to me, in the center. It curls into a circle, then unfolds to bridge the span. There was something very simple and childlike about it's design, and used that as an echo point for the stairway in the lower left, also an unorthodox means of transport.
The second piece is much simpler, just a simple juxtaposition/enlargement of a single quality. I've been thinking a lot about neckties recently. I flew out and back from MN for Thanksgiving wearing one, and it was interesting to see how people responded a bit differently to me. Ties also work as an image of confinement. The question is why are you wearing it, and I wanted to suggest, obviously perhaps, that it's related to the girl happily holding his hand. Looking at it now, I wonder about trimming the tie so that the man's feet are also visible, to make it more clear that he is a walking human tie, better linking the foreground and background images.
