Thoughts on Miyazaki - Howl’s Moving Castle

I like Miyazaki's work but haven't seen this movie yet. Thanks for your insightful comments. I plan to track this movie down this week and watch it. So far the screenshots from the movie that you have posted in your blog make me want to go out right now and get the movie but alas it is 2am and I must retire to bed.

Let me know what you think of his work! I remember his films seemed strange to me at first, then wonderful.... :)

I watched Spirited Away and fell in love with Miyazaki's films. I own them all. The recent ones are the best but the themes and story telling magic can still be found in the early movies. I find it amazing how he mixes adult themes like the horrors of war and preserving the environment into a fairy tale. He's brilliant!
Yeah, isn't he amazing? Having grown up on cartoons, it's so neat to see someone use them in an adult way. I think of Akira, or even the Iron Giant as other examples. We're totally primed to resonate with that visual form, it's really gratifying to see someone very skilled like Miyazaki working with it. :)
I am a Miyazaki's fan. Especially love this production of his. It's simply magical and breathtaking. It's so wonderful that I had blogged about it to share with all my friends.
Yes, I agree! I thought the construction of the castle in the story was particularly magical, especially the "place-changing" device inside the door. Very wonderful and imaginative, almost dreamlike. :)
Yea, that dimension changing door was ingenious.

I especially enjoyed the scene where Howl and Sophie first met and was chased by the wicked witch's henchmen in the alley. My mouth was agape in awe when Howl took Sophie up into the sky, in a graceful stroll through the sky. How beautiful that scene was together with that dreamy music. I could actually feel every excitement felt by Sophie at that particular moment. It's just so magical.

That childishness of Howl was also very endearing. Lol. Calcifer's one of my favorite character too. He's the one that provides all the light moments. He's all like, I might be small in size but don't cha mess with me! Hahaha

Yes, good call on that early scene, and also the humor that Calcifer supplies. I like the scene where Howl becomes all drippy, such a good picture of that depressed feeling.
